In 2012, Katarina Jerinic and Chad Stayrook trekked to ten “summits” across New York City – Summit Street, Summit Avenue, Summit Court, Summit Place, and Summit Road – spanning five boroughs and 100 miles in one continous trip. Sidewalks were explored as terra incognita; street signs became flags that mark mountaintops; the city grid was re-organized into a series of monumental natural destinations. Their installation in BRIC’s Project Room elaborated on this urban expedition through photographs, videos and sculptures and expands on the idea through a series of curated lectures exploring the urban landscape through methods more commonly used to study the natural world.
